[Giants] Giants Antonio Pierce's Testimony Doesn't Guarantee Immunity

With the news that Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce will testify before a grand jury that will be looking into whether receiver Plaxico Burress illegally possessed a firearm at a Manhattan night club last week, some are assuming that this means Pierce will receive in exchange for his testimony some sort of guarantee against prosecution, it doesn’t. At this point, Pierce is choosing to cooperate in the hopes that prosecutors will leave him alone, though Pierce’s lawyer tells the New York Post that anyone who testifies before a grand jury is “immunized” from prosecution, the more accurate explanation seems to be that Pierce’s grand jury testimony can’t then be used against Pierce in a prosecution directed at him. So then, if Pierce’s lawyer’s representations on New York law are indeed accurate, Pierce could still be prosecuted,the D.A. would have to use evidence other than what Pierce said to the grand jury in Plaxico’s case, maybe, say, testimony from Plaxico Burress.
