[Giants] NY Mayor Wants To 'Throw The Book' At Plaxico Burress

A fuming Mayor Bloomberg said Monday he wants Giants player Plaxico Burress prosecuted "to the fullest extent of the law" for accidentally shooting himself in his leg with an illegal handgun. The mayor also called on prosecutors to throw the book at officials of the Giants and New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell for reportedly not alerting police about the shooting immediately, as required by law. The incident reportedly occurred early Saturday inside the crowded LQ nightclub in midtown. Sources said the loaded gun Burress was packing slipped down his pants leg and went off as he fumbled to grab it. He was struck in his right thigh. "It's pretty hard to argue the guy didn't have a gun and that it wasn't loaded," said Bloomberg, lashing out at the Super Bowl receiver. "You've got bullet holes in and out to show that it was there."

I understand the reasoning, but you can't do this. You need to be consistent with the law. If you give him 5 years, you're going to need to give every other guy who does the same thing 5 years, otherwise that wasn't a fair and unbiased trial.

Mortensen is reporting that he'll be put on the nonfootball injury list and get some of the money back from him. He also says that the "vibes" he is hearing are that Plaxico most likely will be released after this season.

Like I've said, if they do this to him, it sets a precedent for first time offenders caught with a weapon. They need to be consistent or treat him like everyone else, regardless of job or celebrity.

I'm just saying the law isn't the same for everyone....people with money usually buy their way out of everything......in this case his money probably won't help him and he'll spend some time in jail....I guess we'll see.

I just feel he could appeal it if someone has similar circumstances and gets a lower sentence than Burress.
