[Panthers] Panthers Plan On Franchising DE Julius Peppers

Charley Casserly of CBS reports that the Carolina Panthers will apply the franchise tag to defensive end Julius Peppers, if the team can’t work out a long-term deal with him. Per Casserly, Peppers’ one-year franchise tender would be more than $17 million. Per the CBA, it would cost the Panthers more than $20 million to use the tag on Peppers in 2010 but absent an extension to the CBA, there would be no salary cap limiting the Panthers’ overall payroll.
