| Charley Casserly of CBS reports that the Carolina Panthers will apply the franchise tag to defensive end Julius Peppers, if the team can’t work out a long-term deal with him. Per Casserly, Peppers’ one-year franchise tender would be more than $17 million. Per the CBA, it would cost the Panthers more than $20 million to use the tag on Peppers in 2010 but absent an extension to the CBA, there would be no salary cap limiting the Panthers’ overall payroll.
