[Lions] Lions Bench Rookie OT Gosder Cherilus

Lions offensive coordinator Jim Colletto said rookie right tackle Gosder Cherilus took a step back in his development last week against Minnesota and will be replaced in the starting lineup by George Foster on Sunday at Houston. Cherilus, a first-round draft pick who started the past three games, had trouble with blocking assignments and was benched after the first half. “It happened in the first play of the game. The guy ran right over him,” Colletto said. “He’s got to get used to the level and the tempo of the guys he’s playing against every week. It’s different than college. You don’t line up (Minnesota defensive end) Jared Allens on you every time. He’s got to understand that every Sunday in this league, there’s somebody pretty good lined up on you. That’ll come with experience.”
