[Bengals] Running Back Controversy Brewing In Cincinnati?

The Bengals might be headed for a running back controversy or, in football lingo, a running back-by-committee. Newcomer Cedric Benson, just five days after signing as a free agent with the Bengals, showed coaches some habits they want starter Chris Perry to follow more closely. "What I saw from Ced (Sunday), I thought he ran with great pad level," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said of Benson, who ran 10 times for 30 yards in the loss at Dallas. "I thought he was pretty decisive in his cuts, in his movement, which is important right now where we are. I think, offensively, that we go ahead and we let the guys up front work and kind of ride the wave a little bit. That's the one thing that we continue to coach Chris on very hard, to go ahead and take the ball, take it vertically, and then let things happen. When Chris is taking the ball vertically, good things are happening." Perry lost his third of five fumbles in five games after only losing four in his previous 22 games with the Bengals since 2004. "We can't have three lost fumbles and five fumbles in five games," Lewis said.
