 [NFL] Robert Smith Says No To Replacing Gene Upshaw Despite being mentioned as a potential candidate, former Vikings running back Robert Smith said he would not push to become the next executive director of the NFL Players Association. "It's flattering," Smith said Monday of the early mention of his name, "but it's really not the right time in my life." Although he played just eight seasons for the Vikings, Smith was a longtime NFLPA player representative and served on the executive committee. Smith said the union would be better suited to hire a Fortune 500 executive. Source: Pioneer Press
