Falcons [Falcons] Local TV Station Helps Falcons Sellout Home Opener

The Atlanta Falcons announced today that they'd sold out Sunday's season-opening game against the Detroit Lions with the help of several television stations that purchased tickets. Tickets were purchased by WXIA-T, WATL-TV and Comcast, according to the Falcons, for the Atlanta chapter of the American Red Cross and the city's boys and girls clubs. The Red Cross is distributing its tickets to Hurricane Gustav evacuees in Atlanta and evacuation volunteer workers. "We'd like to thank our friends at WXIA-TV, WATL-TV and Comcast for helping us sell out Sunday's game," Falcons President Rich McKay said in a written statement released by the team. "We are always proud to partner with organizations that seek to improve our community in a positive way. Because of their generous support, many deserving people will have the opportunity to see the Falcons make their 2008 regular season debut."

Wow. That is a shame to the fan base. Has to be done to collect the TV monies. Have not heard of that much lately but do remember when it was done to insure your team was on TV. Media outlets used to do it at the last minute, along with advertisers, sponsors etc. TV=$$
