| The Vikings may be making noise about Adrian Peterson being back on the field in just two weeks, but a top-notch orthopedic surgeon told the Pioneer Press that the Vikings should simply shut Peterson down for the rest of the season because of his lateral collateral ligament tear. "It's not realistic," said Dr. Johnny Benjamin, the chief of orthopedics at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach, Fla. "Saying it's a Grade 2-plus (tear) is the doctors trying to give coach (Brad) Childress and all the Viking faithful some hope. But it's a torn ligament, and a torn ligament is going to take six weeks to heal. And that's for someone like a doctor or news writer, who doesn't go out there and make cuts like Adrian Peterson obviously does." It would appear that the Vikings are trying to put a happy face on a semi-serious injury. The Vikings offense is pretty inept even with Peterson, without him we're talking 2006 Raiders bad. And with head coach Brad Childress on the hot seat, it might be very tempting to rush the rookie back onto the field to try to save his job. Source: J.J. Cooper, NFL Fanhouse

| I hope they're smart with it, don't be stupid and ruin a young player's career.

| They can't rush Peterson back given his injury history over the past few years. He is coming back from the broken collarbone last year and now a serious knee injury. Any knee injury to a RB has to be considered serious but this one is probably a little worse given his injury proneness the last few years.

| the vikings were fucked before this injury..Peterson could have gone for 2000 yards and they'd still go 5-11 at best...Jackson, Holcomb and Bollinger are not going to get the job done....
