| Chargers C Nick Hardwick Says He Won't Retire | | | Nick Hardwick has a new son and a renewed outlook, and he said Monday what everyone who knows him expected all along. “I’m playing.” The man who has started 103 games at center for the Chargers since 2004 has actually had his mind made up since the middle of January. He took two weeks off after the season, hung out at home and then got the urge to start working out again. “That let me know right there,” Hardwick said. “… I feel great. I’ve been training my butt off since then. I’m ready to have my best season yet.” Hardwick, 30, said in December he was considering retirement after expressing some concern over his quality of life after football. In league circles, that admission was seen as potentially hurting him in his upcoming free agency negotiations but coming off what was considered his best season since his Pro Bowl year of 2006, Hardwick maintained he was simply being honest. “My commitment is full throttle,” Hardwick said Monday. “I just think you have to re-assess yourself all the time – assess how you’re progressing, assess where you stand. I’m more excited right now than I’ve been in a long time to train. Obviously, two weeks off was enough to get the itch.” Source: San Diego Union-Tribune
