Buccaneers Likely To Have $63.2 Million In 2012 Salary Cap Space

According to Pro Football Talk, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are currently $25.05 million under the salary cap and will be allowed to carry over all that cap space to next season. Meanwhile, the Bucs have committed $93 million to the salary cap next season. Detract from that Albert Haynesworth's $7.2 million cap number, as the Bucs are exceedingly likely to cut him rather than paying him that kind of money, and we come up with the following number: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will likely have $63.2 million in salary cap space next season. That's enough salary cap space to sign four or five top-tier free agents to big contracts. The Bucs will be players in free agency - though to what extent is obviously still unclear.

i read something earlier today that said the individual team's salary floors don't even go into effect until 2013. the only 'floor' that is in effect this season is a league floor so the individual teams that aren't spending any money right now don't need to start until next season.

I totally agree. The extra money will go into the owners' pocket. Seems to me that organization don't really like to spend and they will not be a consistent winner until he loosens the purse strings.

yep, i'm almost afraid to bring this topic up because it's so troublesome, but the last few years, when there has been an off and on cap/floor structure, we have gotten a real glimpse into what the league would look like if it were structured like MLB. The richer teams were spending plenty of money while the poorer teams cut their payroll almost in half.

And, just like in MLB, the 'richer' teams turned in more consistent wins than the poorer teams over the past few years.
