Patriots WR Wes Welker Says He Let The Team Down

Patriots wide receiver We Welker looked crushed as he spoke to reporters following New England’s 21-17 loss to the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI according to Brian Costello of the New York Post. Welker had a chance to make a huge play with just more than four minutes left to play but could not come up with the catch. “The ball’s right there,” Welker said. “I’ve just got to make the play. I’ve made it a thousand times in practice and everything else. It comes to the biggest moment of my life and [I] don’t come up with it. It’s discouraging.” “It hit me right in the hands,” Welker said. “I mean, it’s a play I never drop, I always make. Most critical situation and I let the team down.” Brady described what he saw on the play. “Wes was running down the field and it looked like they messed the coverage up a little bit and I threw it to him,” Brady said. “[Welker] went up to try and make it, as he always does, and we just couldn’t connect. He’s a hell of a player. I’ll keep throwing the ball to him for as long as I possibly can. He’s a phenomenal player and teammate and I love that guy.”

yep, welker blew it but he wasn't the only one .......... the pats were dropping passes all over the place in the 4th quarter that could have changed the outcome too .............. and maybe if the pats hadn't let the giants walk down the field on their final drive, the welker drop would already be a distant memory.

Yea that was worst case scenario. That secondary didn't stand a chance.

i know that play is going to haunt welker and it's all anyone is talking about today but he's taking 100% of the fall for the loss and that's just not fair in my opinion.

I could flip the script on all of these people piling on Wes and make a pretty damn good case that the pats wouldn't have even been in that position (trying to hold onto the lead) without his key catches and runs up to that point.

That play was running through my head all night last night. But you're 100% right about where we'd be without him. The dude is as good as they come and while that was a terrible play, I won't let it overshadow what he did for the team this year and every since he's been in New England.
