Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones Had "50 Concussions" In College
Filed Under: , , , ,

During one of the segments in the debut of Costas Tonight on NBC Sports Network, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones chimed in on a topic that had been addressed before he took the stage. Jones, who played college football at Arkansas, said that he has had "50 concussions." He then joked that, if he hadn't suffered so many blows to the head, he would have been the President of the U.S. instead of the owner of the Cowboys.

yes, i thought of that too but maybe it's possible since he played all the way through college ball. i didn't play football in college or even high school and i know i had several concussions in youth sports/skateboarding/falling out of trees/etc.

i think people get concussed in the technical form more than we think. my 12-year old son has been concussed so many times with sports and just being an active kid that our doctor is skeptical whether he should even play sports anymore. at this point, we're just keeping a very close eye on the situation and may pull the plug on the contact sports at any moment (probably with the next concussion).

I agree but the players have lots and lots of talent. Most of those players were good before they came to Dallas. The downfall is thinking areas are "good enough" (secondary, O.line) and possibly sticking with players too long (Kosier, Newman)

Look at the las t three drafts he's done nothing .....JJ is an awesome owner promoting and advertising the team nut he's no football GM when it comes to evaluating talent.

Thank you. That's exactly what I am saying. He is a great promoter but needs to stay away from the GM position and trying to call plays.

That's hardly a list to be proud of only six starting players out of three drafts.

Ignorance is a bad look Dude.

'11 draft:

round 1: Tyron Smith (OT)- considered one of the best young OT's in the league

Round 2: Bruce Carter (LB)- injury prone 1st year. Will be a starter at ILB in year 2.

Round 3: Demarco Murray (RB)- one of the best surprises as a rook. Will be a returning starter.

Round 4: David Arkin (OG)- Backup at the OG position.

Round 5: Josh Thomas (CB)- Cut. Now on Panthers

Round 6: Dwayne Harris (WR)- played in 7 games. Will be back as a backup/returner.

Round 7: Shaun Chapas (FB)- practice squad. Backup FB

Round 7: Bill Nagy (C)- Will return as starting C.

Results: 4/8 will be starters by the beginning of year 2. Only 1/8 is no longer with team.

2010 Draft:

Round 1- Dez Bryant (WR)- Started as rookie. One of the best young WR's in the game.

Round 2- Sean Lee (ILB)- Started as a 2nd year player. One of the best young LB's in the game.

Round 4- AOA (S)- backup. Now on another team

Round 6- Sam Young (RT)- Backup since been cut.

Round 6- Jamar Wall (CB)- backup since been cut

Round 7- Sean Lissemore (DE)- Backup but rotates in. Seen as a big bright spot on d.line

3/6 are starters or rotate in. 3/6 are no longer with the team.

2009 draft:

Round 3- Jason Williams (LB)- backup. no longer with team

Round 3- Robert Brewster (OT)- backup. no longer with team

Round 4- Stephen Mcgee (QB)- backup. Played well in limited chances

Round 4- Victor Butler (LB)- backup. Still with team

Round 4- Brandon Williams (LB)- backup. No longer with team

Round 5- Deangelo Smith (CB)- backup. No longer with team.

Round 5- Michael Hamlin (S)- backup. No longer with team.

Round 5- David Buehler (K)- former starting K. One of the best kickoff guys in the league.

Round 6- Stephen Hodge (LB)- backup. No longer with team.

Round 6- John Phillips (TE)- backup. Played very well when given opportunity.

Round 7- Mike Mickens (CB)- backup. No longer with team. Good player with bad knees. This was a shot in the dark to begin with.

Round 7- Manuel Johnson (WR)- Backup. No longer with team.

1/12 starters. 3/12 backups still with team 8/12 no longer with team

not bad results overall

2009 was horrible, quite possibly one of the worst ever. The last two have been very good
