NFL Could Block Vikings Stay At TCF Bank Stadium

The NFL is annoyed with the idea of the Minnesota Vikings playing up to three seasons at TCF Bank Stadium. There is the $67 million financial hit, not to mention potential logistical nightmares while waiting for Metrodome 2.0 according to Brian Murphy of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press. And league owners still would have to sign off on this concept before the Vikings play a single down at the University of Minnesota. "I can tell you there won't be a lot of happy campers among the membership (owners)," said a person close to the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of stadium negotiations. "TCF is a gem, but it's not an NFL stadium." "Capacity is way reduced," the person close to the situation said. "It's a different atmosphere for visiting teams, not as much of a home-field advantage for the Vikings. Nobody has figured out how the team will fill that loss of revenue hole. There's still a lot of wood to chop."

why would it need to be 3 seasons? that basically means it's going to take 3 and a half years to build the new stadium considering they'll have an off-season to add to the build time as well.

I thought these stadiums could go up quicker than this.

So pretty much block the Vikings from building a new stadium and then they leave Minnesota for LA? Good idea?

Good Idea for the NFL maybe, bad idea for the people of Minne. Why would it take 3 years to build a stadium, it usually takes 1

one year would be amazingly fast but 3.5 years would be amazingly slow. i don't see why they would need to play in a different stadium for more than 1 season.......... 2 seasons at the most.

Vikings have sold out every game for 14 consecutive seasons. I believe the Vikes moving to LA leaves Minneapolis as the largest market without a team. So you tell me, good idea?

Great work by the state though, essentially forcing them into building on the metrodump location

New Dallas Cowboy Stadium - Broke ground on September 20, 2005. Completed on May 27, 2009, granted I don't think the New Metrodome is going to be another "Jerry's World" but still.

well, maybe 3.5 years is about right then .............. just doesn't seem like it should take that long.
