Former Dolphins great Mark Duper, one of the Dan Marino's go-to receivers during the 1980s and '90s, underwent surgery earlier this month to remove a football-sized cancerous tumor near his kidney. Duper told The Miami Herald he feels “great.” The report also said his long-term prognosis is promising with an "above 95 percent" of being cancer-free going forward, according to his doctor. The 53-year-old Duper said he felt uncomfortable during a 150-mile bike ride last November to raise money for the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. “It was like, ‘OK, this is not right,’’’ Duper told the Herald. “I know I’m out of shape, but I’m not that out of shape.” Doctors had initially feared the cancer had spread to Duper's liver, but the 2 1/2-hour surgery confirmed the disease was contained to the kidney. “Seven or eight years ago, I probably would be pretty much doomed,” Duper told the Herald. “The research has advanced a helluva lot, which is great. I’m just here to tell the story.”
