49ers WR Kyle Williams Takes Full Blame For NFC Title Gaffes

San Francisco 49ers KR/WR Kyle Williams struggled to hold onto the ball in Sunday's 20-17 NFC Championship Game loss to the New York Giants, but he's having no trouble facing the music. "I take full responsibility," he said less than 24 hours after his fumbled punt return in overtime set up the game-winning Lawrence Tynes FG that sent New York back to the Super Bowl. "Just trying to make something happen, and the other guy on the other team – he made something happen." Williams, who was filling in for injured return ace Ted Ginn on special teams and offense, also muffed a punt in the fourth quarter that led to the Giants' only second-half touchdown. "It's one of those things you have to take accountability for," Williams said of his decision not to duck reporters Sunday or Monday and address his mistakes.

A lot of respect, he faced the beating he is gonna take from fans and media alike for that horrid performance. I have respect he accepts the blame and taking it like a man. If im a 9ers fan though I curse his name.

I don't. He was put in a very hard spot filling in at returner in the biggest game of his career up to this point (hopefully not ever) and had a bad game. Oh well, get em next year. The big strip was just a great play by the Giants player, no fault of Williams. He had a great season overall, provided a lot of spark and played a big role in getting the team as far as they got, which was much further than anyone ever could have realistically expected. I'm not mad at him at all. If the offense wasn't so pathetic for 99% of the game his gaffes wouldn't have been as big a deal as they were so it's ridiculous to blame him for the loss.

Takes a big man to step up in the spotlight and do that. I'd blame Ted Ginn! That fucker!

I remember saying at the beginning of the season that they would probably tank the season to get Luck. They shut me up quick. Didn't think they would win 3 games.

Huge Props to the man for owning up to his mistakes. Better luck next year, kid has a future in this league I hope this didn't destroy his confidence.
