Alan Williams was hired as defensive coordinator on Thursday and the team announced Brendan Daly has returned to replace Dunbar. Williams will run the familiar Cover-2 based scheme that Allen was accustomed to, and that allayed any concerns he had about a radical change in philosophy. There were some rumors the team could adopt a 3-4 front with a new coordinator. "When I heard (the rumors) at first I brought it to the attention of some people and they assured me it wasn't going to happen," Allen said, according to Judd Zulgad of ESPN 1500. "But just like anything else, when you're 3-13 shakeups happen and you never know what the latest fad is. "If a good D-coordinator is available sometimes you have to hire them and if their philosophy is such then there are decisions you have to make as a player. After talking with coaches and Coach Frazier and (general manager) Rick (Spielman) and those guys, there was never a thought in my mind that that's the way they'd go." Source: National Football Post
