Bears RB Matt Forte Might Consider Hold Out In Training Camp

According to ESPN.com, Bears RB Matt Forte said Wednesday he might consider holding out during training camp if he gets the franchise tag from the team instead of a contract extension. Forte has been seeking an extension since the preseason, and he said the two sides were far apart. "A lot of teams franchise guys so that they can get a deal done or negotiate a deal," Forte said. "It just depends on what the motive of that is." Forte said he would be disappointed if he doesn't get an extension. "I wouldn't say holdout, but people probably wouldn't know where I was," said Forte, who admitted there's a "pretty good chance" he'll be franchised. Forte suffered a sprained MCL in Week 13 and missed the rest of the season, but he hopes to play in the Pro Bowl. Forte said he'll be taking a physical soon on his left knee and plans to play in the Jan. 29 Pro Bowl, which will be his first.

well, i typically don't agree with player holdouts and i don't agree with forte whining this season that the bears overworked him.

however, in this case, i think forte has more than proven he knows how to play this game and he's 'put in his time' playing under his rookie contract and he has given the bears great production that hasn't cost them much money.

Now, having said that, the Bears supposedly HAVE offered Forte a long contract, it just wasn't as much as Forte and many of us think it should have been.

Therefore, maybe the Bears just don't value a running back at what we and Forte think it should be. In which case, Forte should probably just take the $10 mill franchise tag money, play in 2012 for the Bears, and then go get a huge contract in free agency with another team.

I think if he sat out 2012, he would end up costing himself a ton of money in free agency. I don't think that would be a smart move.
