Lions GM Martin Mayhew Says He Wants To Be Active On The Trade Mark

In a rare radio interview, Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew joined the 2 Live Stews show on 790 The Zone in Atlanta. One of the topics discussed was Mayhew's aggressive history with trades. "You know, we were 0-16," Mayhew said. "We had a chance to go out and get Tony Scheffler in a trade, Rob Sims in a trade, Corey Williams, Chris Houston. They kind of replaced that core we didn't have, that nucleus we didn't have." The last time Mayhew and the Lions attempted to swing a deal was at the trade deadline this season. Detroit wanted to send Jerome Harrison to Philadelphia for running back Ronnie Brown, but the swap was ultimately vetoed by the Eagles after Harrison failed his physical. Mayhew is hoping to be active on the trade market this offseason. "We really believe in every avenue to improve, whether it's trades, free agency, waiver claims, the draft," Mayhew said. "We're not focused on just one avenue to go out and sign players. We use everything that's available to us, and the trades just sort of happen. We haven't done any in awhile, but we plan to be aggressive to do more trades this year too."
