Chargers general manager A.J. Smith has developed a reputation for not speaking with the media and this has created a perception that he is standoffish. “They think (Smith) is a mean guy,” owner and team president Dean Spanos said. “He really is not. . . I didn’t hire him for his people skills.” Spanos went on to say Smith will do a better job of speaking to the media in the near future.
