The Tennessee Titans announced the hiring of Brett Maxie as the team's new defensive backs coach. Maxie replaces Marcus Robertson and Curtis Fuller, who were not retained for the 2012 season. A former NFL safety with the New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers, Maxie began his coaching career as a defensive backs coach with Panthers in 1998. Maxie has coached the defensive backs with the 49ers (1999-2003), Falcons (2004-06), Miami Dolphins (2007) and spent the last four seasons with the Cowboys. Maxie's contract with the Cowboys was expiring and the team had recently hired Jerome Henderson, who worked with defensive coordinator Rob Ryan with the Cleveland Browns, to coach the secondary.

To paraphrase the lyrics of an old country song:

Thank God and Greyhound, he's gone.
