Lions QB Shaun Hill Not Opposed To Re-Signing And Backing Up Matthew Stafford

Lions 32-year old backup QB Shaun Hill will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. He expects to test the free agent market, but admits it will be hard to leave Detroit. "I understand exactly what my role is and I accept it, but it doesn't necessarily mean I rest," Hill said. "I still try to get better and improve, but I completely understand what the pecking order is here and I'm fine with it. Once again, I've been in situations where it's never been clearly defined who the starting quarterback was either week to week or throughout a season. That stuff to me, I'm done with all of that. That's actually one of the nice things about here. If it's going to be a backup offer or a backup job somewhere, I don't think any of them are going to be organizations that are this close to winning it all. I highly doubt it will be a situation where I enjoy the work environment as much as I do here." Hill has 26 career starts in 10 NFL seasons. He has thrown for 6,209 yards, 39 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. Hill had 10 starts during the 2010 season, throwing for 2,686 yards, 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He appeared in only two games last season, but Martin Mayhew, Detroit's general manager, said he is leaning toward having three quarterbacks on his roster next season.

I'd let him walk, Drew Stanton is younger and could easily be a #2 to any team.

If I were a backup I'd want to be behind Stafford too. I love the guy and I think he's a great QB, but he gets hurt a lot. You have a good shot at seeing the field if you're backing him up.
