''The last three games I remained the defensive coordinator and . . . it worked pretty (well),'' he said, referring to his time as interim head coach at the end of the season. He also indicated he would like to retain the rest of the defensive coaching staff. The staff includes Anthony Pleasant (defensive line), Gary Gibbs and Adam Zimmer (linebackers), Emmitt Thomas (secondary) and Otis Smith (defensive assistant). ''I do like the defensive staff I have working with me,'' Crennel said. ''We work very well together. That’s a pretty good combination and probably I’ll keep that going forward to see if we can continue to make it work.'' Crennel said the Chiefs would most likely hire an offensive coordinator who didn't work with the Chiefs last season. ''We’re presently going through that process,'' Crennel said. ''We’ve got some candidates we’ve got lined up that we’re going to talk to in the next week here and then see what’s the best fit for us and then we’ll do what’s best for the Chiefs.''
