The Chargers are staying in San Diego for another year. The team plans to issue a joint statement with the city of San Diego on Monday stating that the team will not exercise the out clause in its Qualcomm Stadium lease for 2012. "We will be issuing a joint statement, with Mayor Sanders, in the morning," Chargers stadium spokesman Mark Fabiani said Sunday night in an email, "confirming that we will be working throughout 2012 to find a publicly acceptable way to finance a new stadium on the downtown San Diego bus maintenance yard site." The Chargers are focusing their efforts on a site near Petco Park, a project that was dealt a heavy blow when state redevelopment funds were cut. The Chargers have an out clause that can be exercised from Feb. 1 to May 1 each year with a buyout that decreases annually. The buyout would have been $23 million this year.
