Cardinals High On Re-Signing CB Richard Marshall

While DE Calais Campbell is widely considered to be at the top of the list of free agents the Cardinals would like to re-sign, Pro Football Weekly hears ex-Panthers CB Richard Marshall, a free-agent addition in 2011, must be considered a close second. "He has to be re-signed," one team insider said of Marshall, who received Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton's vote as the team MVP. "He was an absolute life saver after (starting FS Kerry) Rhodes went down with a foot injury. He was able to move into that safety role and still provide a lot of speed." Daily team observers point out that the defense's impressive second-half resurgence began when Marshall was forced to take on the dual role at cornerback and safety. "He's very smart and very tough, and he's just an excellent tackler," the insider said. "He's also a really good special-teams player. Because of him, there was no drop-off at all without Rhodes."
