49ers Rookie QB Colin Kaepernick Not An Ideal Fit For West Coast Offense?

Colin Kaepernick is not the kind of quarterback you would expect to be taken by a team that runs a West Coast offense, but yet he is now a San Francisco 49er after they chose him in the second round of the April draft. Dan Pompei of the National Football Post talked with a couple of high ranking decision makers about Kaepernick in the West Coast. Both have extensive history with the offense, and both of their teams still deploy it. Neither had Kaepernick pegged as a fit for their team. “We look for quicker decision making skills, the ability to get the ball out more quickly,” one said. “He is more of a windup guy. But he does have the movement skills, the ability to get to the perimeter.” The second agreed that Kaepernick’s ability to extend the play will serve him well in the West Coast, but wonders about other aspects of his makeup. “He doesn’t have a lot of touch on his passes, so you worry about the precise timing and touch passes that you usually see in the West Coast,” he said. “He also has a hitch in his delivery. On the surface, he looks like a strange fit. He does have the tools, though. It’s just a matter of molding him.”

It's ok....Jim Harbaugh's there. He's going to make chicken shit into chicken salad, remember? The Kool-aid is out in full force in Red and Gold land when it comes to Harbaugh. The one thing Kaepernick will have going for him is that he's almost guaranteed not to get many gameday snaps with Alex Smith and David Carr in the mix. He'll pretty much be a student all next year.

I would say that's more a reason that he will be getting gameday snaps more than not. Neither of those guys can play their way out of a wet paper bag.

Seriously....Alex Smith is going to get all the snaps. It's like a Haight-Ashbury lovefest here with the Harbaugh/Smith duo. Say what you want about how good or bad Alex Smith is but he is going to be the best option when it comes to trying to win a game. Now...a sign and trade to somewhere like Cincy for Carson? Still means the next one is is getting the lion's share of snaps.

not a surprise that he would be a student all next year. I think it is best for rookies to sit out a year and get to know how the nfl game is different then the ncaa game

First my Heat team now my 49ers???? You better hope the Titans kick some serious ass and that your fucking Knicks go to the finals next season...Now we're chicken shit???? I know I didn't want Smith for another fucking season and Harbaugh isn't God at least to me, but he's better than Singletary...

Yeah but when Smith starts playing like shit like he always does and the team is losing, there's going to be huge pressure from both the FO and fans to play Kaepernick. He won't sit long if Smith is fucking up.
