49ers WR Michael Crabtree Not Sold On QB Alex Smith

Even though he is a free agent, Alex Smith has been endorsed by coach Jim Harbaugh as the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback, receiver Michael Crabtree apparently isn't convinced Smith deserves the job. Crabtree joined 49ers informal workouts for the first time Monday, when offensive players began a four-day "minicamp" at San Jose State, he has missed other informal workouts despite being in the Bay Area. When asked by reporters if he thought catching passes from Smith was important to building chemistry, Crabtree responded: "Who's the quarterback?" When told Smith was the likely starter, Crabtree said: "He's the quarterback? I'm just asking." Crabtree told reporters that whoever starts at quarterback for the 49ers would get his support, but he's still not sure who that player wil be. "I wish I could tell you that," he told reporters. "I know what you're all scratching at. I wish I could tell you who is going to be the quarterback. I don't know. I don't know. Whoever the quarterback is, I'm 100 percent down with it and I'm ready to go. That's it."

Title seems a little misleading...sounds like hes just stating the obvious. How many qbs have gone through there the last couple of years. Then again who is he to talk, the guy doesnt exactly give 100% at practice.

Kind of hard to give 100 % when you were legitimately hurt one year haha. I think he's in for a good season if the QB can throw it to him.

Kind of hard to give 100% when ur a little diva hold out bitch. I like him in college but lost most of my respect for him after what he pulled. He KNOWS how much the 49ers have talked up smith this year...he knows who he should be catching balls from right now. Hes just giving himself an excuse to not show up.

Can you really blame him though if he isn't sold on Smith?

Yes. Look at the situation in Jacksonville, Seattle, Cincy, Minnesota..all of these places are a toss up at the QB situation. He should just stop being a whiney baby and just practice with Smith and Kaepernick regardless of who he is sold on. Hes paid to play and catch passes from both qbs - so he better get ready. I do understand your point..but the lockout is not time to be pulling crap like that. Calling out smith the way he did in this article doesnt help their chemistry any either.
