One Team Studying Tape Of Reggie Bush As A Potential Slot Receiver
Filed Under: , , , , ,

Word is that if tailback Reggie Bush doesn't return to New Orleans for the 2011 season — and despite an $11.8 price tag, that remains a possibility — he will be more sought after than some people think as a free agent. Last week, The Tip Sheet reported that at least one team with time on its hands during the lockout was reviewing videotape of Bush as a potential slot receiver. But we heard from some teams this week that he is just as valuable as a change-of-pace back, who gets maybe 10-12 "touches" per game as a back and return man. Said one team executive: "The thing with (Bush) will be timing. You don't want to run out when free agency eventually starts, and sign a (versatile) back, and then have Bush pop free, because the Saints can't afford him. You might be kicking yourself for not waiting on Bush, and seeing what his market is out there. So it's probably going to take some legwork, you know?"

So I guess Bush is kinda in between. Still probably too small for outside though.
DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin are both 6 feet or under and under 200 pounds but both play on the outside.

Bush is more than capable playing the X or Z receiver positions.

The thing is, if he moves to WR in New Orleans? They'd use him at any point, though. Sometimes Colston moves into slot. You've got Meachem, Henderson..hopefully Moore, if they resign him. Bush would add another weapon in the receiving corps, while Ingram gives them more stability in the backfield. This can work out great for Bush in NOLA as long as they utilize it properly, and of course..they agree to a cut in pay.

lol...New Orleans already uses Bush the proper way. That's a silly argument to say that the Saints should stick him at WR exclusively. Payton knows what he's doing with Reggie. It's the other teams that are going to have no idea what to do with him if he leaves.
Buck Fenson likes this.

Imagine if Metcalf was on that '98 Falcons team that eventually went to the Super Bowl.

I also remember him being apart of the Ryan Leaf trade while with the Chargers.

Stop derailing threads guys. This is about Reggie here.

That's why his production has suffered? The proper way to use him as far as HB moving with the ball from the backfield is concerned..is sitting on the bench. Do not let him attempt a punt return..ever. Use him as a screen WR/HB, slot WR..or else let him go.

if hes too small to play outside what does that make santonio holmes, greg jennings, jeremy maclin, reggie wayne, hines ward, roddy white, and 75% of other WRs that are worth a damn.

for every one fitz, calvin, andre theres 5 santonios, jennings, whites

reggie is not even remotely close to being too small, too slow, or not having good enough hands. hes perfect size, plenty fast, plenty strong enough (probably will be one of the strongest WRs in the league actually) and has great hands.

he would have still gone #2 overall if he came out as a full time WR, it would be a transition but he could definitely pull it off

I don't recall the Patriots having big, physical receivers when they won 3 Super Bowls in the 2000's.....you of all people Steve12 should know that.

I'd question that great hands, at times. Fumbled PRs. Etc. But, I think its more so him trying to make moves before ever securing the ball.

he has fantastic hands....he may fumble from getting fancy and trying to do to much every once in a while but when it comes to actually catching the ball he is great. he was perfect in receiving drills at the combine and his pro day, he looked like a WR catching the ball.
