Panthers Hesitant To Start Rookie QB Cam Newton In 2011
Posted By: BigBlueBruiser 05-20-2011 , 12:50 AM

Panthers officials told Bucky Brooks of NFL.com that quarterback Cam Newton will not start for Carolina until he has a firm understanding of the offense and a strong supporting cast. The loss of offseason workouts and a potential Steve Smith trade are two factors working against Newton. He needs extensive work on his mechanics, and the Panthers' playbook may prove to be a challenge on the heels of Auburn's numeric play-calling system. The Panthers may use Newton as a situational threat early in the season, taking advantage of his size and running ability on short-yardage plays. If the Panthers can limit his pass attempts to less than 25 per game, Newton can develop at a rate that will allow him to minimize his inexperience and have success.

disagree here...i think he truly has the potential to be great. throwing him in on a shitty team though isnt the road to success.

people are so fast to call him a bust...i think hes very risky but his talent is undeniable. hes much more like a roethlisberger-type QB (which better straight line speed) than he was vick or young type guy

Pretty much. What happens if .. WHEN we finally see a season, Clausen impresses? Leads them to a pretty good record, shows he can handle it..then what happens? lol Panthers were stupid to draft Newton.

We'll agree to disagree. I give him a 3% chance to succeed in the NFL. And that's generous.

Yea he's talented. But he's talented in a way that gives him no chance to succeed as an NFL quarterback.

no chance? as in zero chance of him every being worth being drafted into pro football? i mean its ok not not like the guy but damn thats a little rough.

i dont think he was first overall material, i didnt think so about russell either but he has incredible ability and i really dont think hes the worthless piece of shit everyone makes him out to be

I give him a 2.5% chance. I see a greater chance of him giving back his heisman than him being a successful quarterback in the NFL.
