Jim Fassel Could Be An Option For The Broncos At Head Coach?

The last time the Broncos held a head coaching search, they went against a trend. The Broncos gave Josh McDaniels his first head coaching job in January 2009, even though nine of the previous 11 Super Bowl champions were led by head coaches in their second stints. Since then, the last two Super Bowl winners were first- time head coaches — Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin (2008) and New Orleans' Sean Payton (2009). Despite this recent run, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen may be gun-shy about hiring a first-time head coach again and if so, Jim Fassel may get a look. He led the New York Giants to Super Bowl XXXV and, perhaps just as important, was the Broncos' offensive coordinator in 1993 when John Elway had his only 4,000-yard passing season.

After dinner between Elway and Bowlen last week, John will be hired in some capacity to the Broncos front office. Then the head coaching job goes to Gary Kubiak.

I've always felt Fassel deserved another NFL head coaching job......he did lead us to a Super Bowl appearance, along with 3 playoff appearances and 2 division titles. And he had a pretty solid staff working under him, including Sean Payton and John Fox.

He was the Broncos offensive coordinator in 1993, the season which John Elway had his only 4,000 yard season.

The Locomotives can hire Brian Billick. In fact, if Fassel got a head coaching job in the NFL, Brian Billick could be hand picked by Jim Fassel to replace him as Head Coach of the Locomotives.
