Pass Defense Lets Texans Down In First Loss Of The Year

For two weeks, the Houston Texans were one of the NFL's best teams largely because of an effective, versatile offense but now, they're 2-1 and their pass defense is a big reason. The Texans, after playing well enough offensively in the first two weeks of the season to overcome a defense struggling to stop the pass, couldn't stop the Dallas Cowboys' equally-potent offense Sunday and lost for the first time this season, 27-13, at Reliant Stadium in Houston as Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo completed 23 of 30 passes for 284 yards and two second-half touchdowns with no interceptions. "They attacked us and we have to find a way to stop the attack," Houston safety Bernard Pollard told HoustonTexans.com. "Until we do that, teams are going to come here and we're going to go there and teams are going to bombs away on us. You don't want that in the NFL. These receivers can run and quarterbacks are accurate. We've got to stop it." The Texans' allowed Colts' quarterback Peyton Manning to complete 40 of 57 passes for 433 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in the season opener and Redskins' quarterback Donovan McNabb completed 28 of 38 passes for 426 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions in Week 2. The Texans outscored Indianapolis by dominating the second half by rushing effectively, and the Redskins led the Texans by 17, 27-10, late in the third quarter before Houston rallied. But on Sunday, the Cowboys limited Texans' quarterback Matt Schaub in the first three quarters, with Houston's lone touchdown coming late in the game to pull the Texans to within the final margin.

their defense has been a problem for many years. their front 7 seems to be at least formidable in talent and will be even better when cushing comes back. however, i have never had faith in their defensive coaches and I'm not sure Bush and Gibbs are capable of fixing this thing. We will see I guess.

Kareem Jackson keeps getting abused out there and the rest of the secondary isn't much better.
