Chargers Nixed Several Trade Offers For WR Vincent Jackson

The San Diego Chargers have rejected several trade offers for wide receiver Vincent Jackson, letting the Wednesday deadline to trade him pass without making a deal, according to multiple sources. The NFL and the NFL Players' Association had agreed to a 4 p.m. ET deadline for San Diego to trade Jackson, which would have allowed him to be active by the fifth week of the regular season; Jackson is under a three-game suspension for past DUI offenses. When he did not sign his restricted free agent tender, the Chargers placed Jackson on an exempt list, which prohibited him from playing for three more weeks. By letting Wednesday's deadline pass, the Chargers will keep Jackson on the exempt list for the first six weeks of the season but San Diego still can trade him by the Oct. 19 trade deadline. "We had multiple offers and the Chargers squashed them all," Jonathan Feinsod, one of Jackson's agents, said. Feinsod was critical of GM A.J. Smith, saying "Archie Manning had it right," a reference to Manning's reluctance to have Eli Manning play for San Diego after being drafted by the team in 2004. "They call [Smith] the Lord of No Rings for a reason."

VJ's agents are asking for Marshall type money, so why shouldn't the Chargers ask for Marshall type compensation. You can't have it both ways.

Teams have balked at both. Although I really think the Chargers would have gotten what they wanted if VJ's contract demands weren't so high. Especially since the Vikings were willing to deal a 2nd for just a rental.

I'd say stubborn. If those rumours about two second rounders being the requirement true, then he's pretty much screwed the best chance of moving him for good value.

Was hoping our braindead front office would have made a move for VJax but that wuld have just made too much sense...

I think it's great they're not trading him. Stand up to the prick players and their refusal to honor their contracts!

Two thumbs up Smith and the Chargers!

Clayton said it was a 2nd and 4th.

The Vikings offered a 2nd and conditional pick (on whether he signs long term) but the Chargers know the Vikings have no intention of signing him long term.

Teams just value their picks way too much.

Schwartz has used the holdout effectively for his clients (Roddy White, Marshall and Revis) so he's probably pissed it hasn't worked again.

If more teams stood up to these players they wouldn't be doing it so much, I mean Revis had 3 fucking years left on his deal, and he has to play (or be on the team) for 6 games for a year of service to count. No way Revis would have held out that long.

But the Jets are desperate this year.
