| Chargers LB Shawne Merriman Returns To Practice | | |
Chargers outside linebacker Shawne Merriman practiced for the first time since Aug. 17 today, although it's highly unlikely he'll be ready to start the regular-season opener Monday night at Kansas City. Merriman's been recovering from the recurrence of an Achilles issue that sidelined him after three practices after he ended his lengthy holdout from training camp. Unable to practice again was backup quarterback Billy Volek, who's been healing from the rough treatment he got in the preseason finale at San Francisco . Backing up Philip Rivers in practice was J.T. O'Sullivan, the journeyman quarterback who was signed Monday by the Chargers.
