Rams Name Rookie QB Sam Bradford As The Starter

The St. Louis Rams have named No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford as the Week 1 starter when the team opens at home against the Arizona Cardinals. Bradford, who won the 2008 Heisman with the Oklahoma Sooners, will be under center in a meaningful game for the first time since last October when he was injured in a Sooners loss to rival Texas. During a 3-1 preseason campaign for the Rams, Bradford went 33-55 for 338 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Umm, a little early to make ANY judgment, whether positive or negative.

It's going to be a difficult year for Bradford. He's got very little to work with other than Steven Jackson. Teams are going to come right at him and make the Rams try to win on the arm of Bradford. Problem is, Keenan Burton, Brandon Gibson, Laurent Robinson, Dominique Curry, Danny Amendola, Mardy Gilyard...none of these guys are striking fear into any defense...

LOL. Um, whether he is a bust or not will be determined by his regular season play not his preseason play. With the amount of money he is getting paid, it is kind of hard for them NOT to play him. Ryan Leaf was the Chargers starting QB to begin his rookie year too ya know.

But having said that, nothing will be decided this season. Bradford will absolutely have a rough season like Ward said. It will not be pretty but it won't necessarily tell us much about whether he is a bust or not.

The thing that is working against Bradford in the arena of public opinion is simply the fact he is being paid a ridiculous amount of money as an unproven rookie since he was a top pick. If Sam was drafted lower and had a lower profile then people would take it easier on him but instead he is essentially making top QB in the NFL money to start so a lot of people will be quick to bust on him when the inevitable shitty rookie season happens. He just doesn't have enough talent around him to have a Matt Ryan type of rookie season even if Sam is indeed for real.

I really don't know why the Rams don't go after one of the big named guys? Sign TJ or Jackson for one year and see what happens. It isn't like they have a lot going for them anyways. The risk vs. reward just seems to make sense.

I think Bradford will be fine. I don't think he is the second coming of Elway or anything, but I figure he will be a serviceable QB. my .02
