Bears Cut Special-Teams Ace Tim Shaw And 3 Others

Linebacker Tim Shaw didn't make the cut. The player who led the Bears with a franchise-record 30 special-teams tackles last season was one of the first players released Friday, according to a league source. Shaw was playing for his job in Thursday's finale against Browns, but didn't do enough to impress the coaches. Kevin Malast, who started at middle linebacker and recovered a fumble against the Browns, told the Tribune in a text message that he has been released. Another linebacker released Friday was Kelvin Smith, a third-year player from Syracuse and wide receiver Freddie Barnes, an undrafted free agent who attended Homewood-Flossmoor and Bowling Green, was informed that he has been waived.

Disappointed in Shaws release. I see big problems all over on the Bears,no matter which side of the ball you're looking at. Granted everone's playing their cards close to the vest. The season is darn near ready to start. No answers for the Bears shakey OL or to any unit you look at. Oh well, at seasons end the house cleaning can start. Strong push has to be made for the hiring of Cowher as coach. Next GM and team president needs to be addressed as well.
