Bears TE Greg Olsen Still Available For Trade

A league source said Tuesday there is still talk that Bears tight end Greg Olsen is available. Olsen trade talks heated up at the owners meetings in March, and the team thought there was a deal to be made with the New England Patriots on draft day, only to see them grab a tight end in the second round and come back the next day for another in the fourth round. Since then, there has been nothing but tireless propaganda about the way Olsen fits into Mike Martz offense. Now, it seems possible that the struggles of 2008 first-round pick Chris Williams could lead to a trade of 2007 first-round pick Olsen because newly minted veteran tight end Brandon Manumaleuna has to play as an extra blocker. The problem remains the Bears' reluctance totrade Olsen for anything less than a second- to third-round pick despite his market value being roughly a fifth-round pick.

I would give a conditional 5th round pick that could turn into maybe a 3rd.

Or they could just move him out wide and give themselves their first competant WR since their last Superbowl Appearance?

Eagles, where you at? Kolb sure as hell isn't going to have enough time with this shitty o-line to find a wideout, let's just make the offense a two TE set.

Olsen's a 1 dimensional TE & would even be worse at WR lined up against corners.

Waiting to try & trade him is just another fuck up by Bear brass. His value sure as Hell didn't go up...

You would think that they would showcase him in the preseason a lot to sell him.

With his size and speed, that's a big miss match, and at worse would be a decoy out wide.

But I guess beggars can be choosers...right?

His size does present a problem for defenders but he's poor at going up for balls & bringing them down consistently, mediocre at shielding defenders off the ball, & isn't strong enough to get off the line clean as a rule. He does better coming off the line at TE against LBers/nickel backs as a second/third option then when he was split out wide.

When he started catching a few early in the year, DCs game planned him into obscurity. The Bears did split him out wide as a decoy with mixed results.

I just don't want to see another half assed attempt at filling a WR corp with another off-the-wall 'solution'.

Bottom line with me is the boy can't block for shit & in a Martz system, that's a death sentence. Trade him for a 6 pack & snaggle tooth hooker for all I care. I've seen enough...
