Titans RB Chris Johnson Expects To Sign A Huge Deal Next Year

Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson doesn't regret taking the small increase in his 2010 pay to report to training camp, but he does say that this will be the last season he plays without a long-term contract. "I couldn't be in here mad. If I was going to come in here mad, I shouldn't have taken the little (money) they gave me," Johnson said. "Basically I have to come in here and have a great year and get my history deal next year. I felt like I deserved it this year, but … I can say it won't happen again. This is the last time without me having a long-term deal. It's a must." The running back is set to receive base salaries of $800,000 in 2011 and $960,000 in 2012. The Titans informed Johnson's agent Joel Segal that contract negotiations would begin in September, according to the running back. "A couple of games into the season," Johnson said. NFL rules state that Johnson must wait until July 22, 2011 -- a year after he signed his recent pay increase -- to sign a new contract.

i think c.j. went above and beyond the call of duty to play in his 3rd year this year for a small amount of money (compared to his worth on the open market).

here are the problems with c.j.'s plan to get paid next summer:

1) He could get hurt
2) the titans don't give huge, record-breaking contracts
3) no one may be getting contracts next summer if there is a lockout or strike

With all of these factors going against him, i would say the chances of him getting a 'history' deal next summer are slim and none ............
