Despite professing "a lot of respect" for Terrell Owens, Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo confirmed Tuesday that the wide receiver never was close to making St. Louis his new NFL home. "We made the decision that we were going to stick to what we had here," Spagnuolo said. "It was talked about, and we're moving on from that." Spagnuolo said he, general manager Billy Devaney and executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff "kicked the tires on a lot of different people. There were a lot of discussions about other things, things that we could do and not do. And we decided to not do a bunch of things." Owens, who never was offered a contract by the Rams, agreed Tuesday to a one-year deal with Cincinnati, according to media sources. The Rams, meanwhile, expect plenty of competition for the five or six wideout jobs, even without Owens in the mix, when training camp kicks off later this week. "We've got a lot of guys that are going to be battling," Spagnuolo said. "There's going to be some tough decisions to make at wide receiver. Any time you've got competition, I think it elevates the play of that particular position."
