Disgruntled Browns K Phil Dawson At Mandatory Minicamp

Browns kicker Phil Dawson is at Cleveland’s mandatory minicamp after skipping the club’s voluntary workouts in an apparent contract dispute. Dawson, the only player left from Cleveland’s 1999 expansion team, has been seeking a new, long-term deal from the Browns for several seasons and he has one year left on his contract. Dawson also boycotted the team’s voluntary organized team activities last season and then reported to minicamp. The 11-year veteran missed five games last season with a calf injury, but made 17 of 19 field goal tries, including his final six. Players were subject to a fine if they did not attend coach Eric Mangini’s minicamp.

Phil, you have the easiest gig in the NFL. Sit back, relax, and cash those checks.

Since when is kicking in the wind tunnel that is Cleveland Browns stadium easy? Plus @Pit once a year. He was gonna lose almost 10k a day though if he sat out.

He's a kicker. That's all just kick a football and trot to the sidelines. About as easy as it gets.

He might pull a hammy by acting like he's about to tackle a returner and just sliding on the grass instead?

Get out of here, a clutch kicker is one of the most important players in the stadium, the game comes down to a kick more times then not. As far as workload they have a very easy job but the mental part of it isn't meant for most people.

The ability to kick in adverse conditions, which Dawson has mastered over the years, does not reside in all kickers. I agree that we shouldn't be scrutinizing the kicker's holdout because they're not real football players, but that doesn't mean they have no value. I would like to see Dawson back because bum-ass Suisham, who I watched play here at BGSU, is NOT a kicker of equal skill, and he's the fallback option at the moment.

Don't make me start a fight club defending my kicker.
