| Chargers LB Larry English Still Adjusting To New Position | | | San Diego Chargers linebacker Larry English acknowledges that he's not completely comfortable at his new position. "The game is a little bit different but I'm having fun," English said. "I'm still learning every day. I'm not to that point where I'm 100 percent all the way comfortable like I was at (defensive end in college) but that point is coming. By the kickoff for the first game of the season, I hope to be at that point." English played defensive end at Northern Illinois, but at 6-2 and 255 pounds, was viewed as a 'tweener prospect in the National Football League. Drafted by the Chargers with the 16th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, English totaled 32 tackles on defense (36 overall), including a pair of quarterback sacks. Not exactly the production expected from a mid-first round pick, but to be fair, the Chargers did not draft English to instantly replace Shaun Phillips or Shawne Merriman at outside linebacker. English likely won't replace Phillips or Merriman in the starting lineup this season, either, and will instead need to earn playing time opportunities by outplaying Jyles Tucker and Antwan Applewhite during the pre-season.
