Cowboys Favoring Alan Ball To Start At Free Safety

Converted cornerback Alan Ball is the frontrunner start at free safety, Cowboys secondary coach Dave Campo said after the job opened up on Good Friday, when Dallas released Ken Hamlin. The other in-house are veteran Pat Watkins and second-year player Mike Hamlin, who Campo considers a rookie because the Clemson alum was limited special teams play last season. Ball, meanwhile, started a handful of games at safety after Hamlin went down with an injury. "I think Alan Ball is the guy we're pointing toward because I think he showed in the games he was in last year that he was capable of making that transition," Campo said. "The great thing about him was if you watch the first game he played at safety last season, I went, 'Oh, brother,' because he missed two or three tackles. But Aln is all-out with everything he does. If you watch him doing a pedaling drill, it's like the last play of the Super Bowl. I have to tell him to slow down and relax."

If Watkins starts I will completely feel as if this coaching staff has lost its mind!!!!!! Watkins is garbage...he is terrible...should I use more words to explain him.

He's not that bad. The only time he ever started was when he was a rook, and played better when he got his job back.

Not the best option, but has been in the system a long time, has range and a nose for the ball

They are talking about bringing in a Vet anyways

Personally I would like to see them bring in Sharper for 2 years, develop AOA, move Ball back to CB, cut Watkins, and have Hamlin be the flex safety. If that CB we drafted is as nasty as advertised, we wont miss Watkins as a gunner.

If your talking about keeping what we have on hand (and it seems as if they have no intention too) then Ball or Hamlin is really no better a candidate than Watkins. And thats not to say Watkins is any kinda stud. In fact out of those 3 I may actually prefer Watkins just due to experience
