Saints' Alex Brown Confirms He'll Play Left Defensive End

On his ride to the Louis Armstrong Airport earlier today, veteran defensive end Alex Brown knew he had made the right decision to reach an agreement with the New Orleans Saints on two-year contract. Brown, who landed back in Chicago less than an hour ago after a day and a half of visiting with Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis and Coach Sean Payton among other Saints brass, took a few minutes to share with The Times-Picayune why he decided to sign with the defending Super Bowl champions. "It just felt good," Brown said. "I went down there and met with Mr. Loomis and Coach Payton and I felt like everything was pretty open. They tell you exactly where you stand. And I liked that. I liked the honesty." The Saints already have a standout right end in Will Smith, and were in search of a left end to replace Charles Grant, who was released earlier this offseason. "I can play left end," Brown said. "That's what I truly expect to do when I get there. Will is doing a heck of a job on the right. I just want to come in and find my niche and do it to the best of my ability. I can play left. I didn't have to because like I said I had Adewale Ogunleye playing of the left for the Bears the past six years. So I wasn't needed at left end. On the Saints, I feel I'm best suited to help the team by playing on the left side. If I can get that done we can be better than the Saints were last year."

This is going to be a new experience for Brown. Hopefully he succeeds at left DE.
