The reported interest of the Colts in San Diego Chargers left tackle Marcus McNeill, interest that became a story in the Colts' blogosphere early Sunday morning because of some good hustle and alert linking by BigBlueShow over at Stampede Blue. "Either this is a huge story with serious implications for the Colts and the NFL Draft, or it is just another silly reporter blowing a lot of hot air in the hopes that stupid bloggers like me pick it up and run with it," BigBlueShoe writes, adding, "On Friday, local San Diego radio host and columnist Lee 'Hacksaw' Hamilton offered up a pretty big topic of conversation for the listeners of his XX1090 radio show 'Sportswatch.' According to Hacksaw's sources, Bill Polian and the Colts are actively pursuing Chargers restricted free agent left tackle Marcus McNeill." McNeill, a second round selection in the 2006 NFL Draft by San Diego, received a tender offer this offseason as a restricted free agent and because of the tender, signing McNeill away from San Diego would give a first- and third-round selection to San Diego. "Hacksaw's sources tell him that an offer sheet for McNeill would need to be in the neighborhood of five years, $35 Million with $12-15 Million in bonus money upfront," BigBlueShoe writes, adding, "If the Colts sign McNeill to an offer sheet like this, the Chargers would have seven days to match it. If they don't, McNeill is a Colt, the Chargers get Indy's first and third round picks in the 2010 NFL Draft, and Tony Ugoh officially goes down as one of the all-time biggest draft busts in Bill Polian's career."
