Panthers To Replace DE Julius Peppers By Committee

It'll take a strong group effort next season for the Carolina Panthers to replace the production they got from defensive end Julius Peppers, who signed with the Chicago Bears earlier this month as an unrestricted free agent. "He'll be missed," coach John Fox said of Peppers last week at the NFL meetings in Orlando, Fla. "Hopefully, we can find some young guys who can step in. Maybe we can do it with more than one guy." Three returnees will be expected to make big contributions - starting left end Tyler Brayton, 2007 third-round pick Charles Johnson and '09 second-rounder Everette Brown. Peppers had a franchise record 81 sacks in eight seasons in Carolina. "This game is about matchups," said Fox. "He's a guy who's always created a positive matchup for us. "But he's moved on. We'll have to also."
