| Lovie Smith Says Julius Peppers Will Play Both Defensive End Positions | | | Moments after he was introduced as a Bear, Julius Peppers said he had no preference playing right or left defensive end. "I can definitely see myself going on both sides,'' Peppers told the Tribune. "I think it will depend on the opponent and the scheme.'' Bears coach Lovie Smith talked about that scenario when he addressed the media Wednesday at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando. Smith wouldn't commit to a side for his new star, although the coach has been known to align his top pass-rusher on the left. "There are pros and cons with both sides,'' Smith said. "We are keeping our options open with him. He has played both. We could just lock him into the left and let him go against the worst tackle, the right tackle. But we're going to let him play both. We can try to find ways to get him one on one, which is important for us. He has had sacks on both sides. I've seen him be dominant on both sides. It might be a good thing to have him on one side and Tommie (Harris) opposite him, or two of them together. Who do you double?'' Source: Chicago Tribune | | |
