Jets coach Rex Ryan’s comments probably won’t be received well by restricted free agent running back Leon Washington, who already is skipping the off-season program as he rehabs his leg injury. Ryan said he wants to return Washington to his pre-2009 role, third-down back and give LaDainian Tomlinson 15 carries per game. A year ago, Washington was averaging 12 carries per game before his gruesome injury and in essence, he’ll be losing his spot to Tomlinson. “What we should do with him in my opinion is put him back to his role, which he had initially, which is third-down back, a change-of-pace type back and a Pro Bowl returner,” Ryan said. “And there’s nothing wrong with that.”
