Players Say Redskins New Offense Is More "Explosive"

The offensive scheme Mike and Kyle Shanahan are installing is much more advanced than the offense former head coach Jim Zorn directed as the Redskins ranked near the bottom of the league in scoring and went 12-20 during the 2008-09 seasons. Although the basic concepts are the same -- spread the field, control the ball with short passes, receivers running to spots in patterns and staying put -- the big difference in the Shanahans' offense, players said, is the number of "explosive" plays included in the playbook. Since the start of the offseason conditioning program Monday, players have watched film of the Broncos' offense under Mike Shanahan, and they've become increasingly impressed with each session, several said.
