Former Kansas City Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil earlier this week said he expected running back Larry Johnson to supplant longtime starter Clinton Portis as Washington's top back during this fall. "I love competition," Coach Mike Shanahan said. "So we're going to try to get as much depth as we can at every position. We've just got a couple of guys there right now. We've lost about four running backs. We're going to keep on getting guys that we think can compete because you're one play or two plays away from going to that third-team guy. So we're going to try to get as much talent as we can and, hopefully, not screw 'em up."
