Cowboys LB Jason Williams Could Challange Bobby Carpenter For Nickel Role

Cowboys linebacker Jason Williams is a phenomenal athlete who struggled to grasp the playbook and was set back by a high ankle sprain suffered in the preseason finale. His failure to make an impact on special teams was a major disappointment, resulting in him being inactive most games. Jerry Jones strongly hinted at the combine that he expects Williams to challenge Bobby Carpenter for the nickel/dime linebacker role.

I would LOVE to see that

However, its a walk year for Bobby, and a good year in the Nickle could result in a 4-3 team giving some guarantee money. I could see Bobby turning it up for a walk year

Carpenter is a decent role player and he'll never be anything more than that, at least not in our defense. I don't like the way he plays at all. And Parcells was stupid for drafting him that high. He probably would have still been available in the draft a good picks after we picked him. Williams has everything you want in a linebacker, he has safety speed, great size, good motor. Williams won't just be a nickel linebacker during his career, expect him to play well and develop into a 3-4 ILB where he play after this season if everything goes according to plan.

I was one of the people who labled Bobby Carpenter a bust. The guy had a great season...i don't think Jason Williams has enough experience to get the tje job done.

Even if Jason Williams just shows flashes of being a good linebacker in mini-camps and preseason, I want him out on the field in the regular season so he can progress faster cause we really need him to push for an Inside Linebacker role to prevent us from spending money on FA next offseason or even worse drafting one in the top 2 rounds when we could use that pick elsewhere.
