Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart has so far shown the leader's "growth and maturity" Ken Whisenhunt sought when the Cardinals coach told a Phoenix radio station last week the seeming successor to retired Kurt Warner would have to earn the starting quarterback job. "I feel very good where Matt is right now," Whisenhunt said from Arizona Monday. "Matt's ready to take the reins and be the quarterback that we all feel he can be." What pleased Whisenhunt most was Leinart's positive response to his March 10 challenge on XTRA910 Radio that Whisenhunt would hand Leinart the job, "when he goes to three Pro Bowls" and the Super Bowl, as Warner did. The veteran supplanted Leinart, the 10th pick in the 2006 draft, as full-time starter prior to the 2008 season. "After it was reported where I said, 'Matt's going to compete for the job,' his response to that was he'd look forward to that competition," Whisenhunt said. "Matt said he was going to show us that he was ready to play. To me, that was a great sign of maturity and that's the kind of thing we've been looking forward to seeing from Matt."
