LaDainian Tomlinson Creating A Bidding War Between Vikings, Jets?

Free Agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson is at the Jets training facility for a visit, the team's Web site confirmed. "For that to ever turn into a signing, it's gonna have to be if everything lines up with him, us, economics, medical, role," GM Mike Tannenbaum said this morning on WFAN. "I think he would bring great leadership to our organization, but we'll see how it goes today." Vikings coach Brad Childress didn't sound worried about LaDainian Tomlinson's visit with the Jets today. Speaking on a Twin Cities radio station, Childress hinted that Tomlinson simply may be trying to create a bidding war for his services. "I think that a lot of times when you only have one person involved the agents don't like that game and a lot of time they take them and, what shall I say?, create the atmosphere that there's want somewhere else," Childress said on KFAN radio. "And there may be, in fact, want somewhere else. But something to drive the deal."

Tomlinson's connection with the Jets is offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, who was a former Chargers assistant. Besides playing in the biggest sports market in the country, the one thing that could be attractive for LT to sign with the Jets is more playing time, more than he would probably receive if he decided to sign with Minnesota and both are contenders, another factor in LT's decision.

While Shonne Green is entrenched as the starter, he's not in the caliber as A.P. is and Leon Washington is still recovering from a broken leg. Washington's future could be in doubt because of the second round tender he received.

If a team is confident that he'll make a full recovery before the season, they just might sign Washington to an offer sheet and the Jets don't really seem all that worried if they do, whether or not Washington will be 100 percent when the season starts.

He'd be a great fit in Minnesota. He's all about catching passes and screens...he'd add the dimension that AP can't.

Why would he want to go to a team that's not committed to winning? lol...

Good move for Minnesota if the can get him for a reasonable price but does he want to be a 3rd down blocker and receiver out of the backfield? He doesnt have much of a choice but will ego block the move? I dont understand the Jets....you couldnt give TJ 2 for 5 but you can bid for LT?

Free agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson hasn't found a new team just yet. But as he visits with the Jets, the rumors are swirling that he's close.

We've caught wind of a rumor that Tomlinson will, in fact, sign with the Jets. Although you should file this under "rumor" rather than "report" right now, suffice to say that it's a strong rumor coming from a good source.
